Our general privacy policy

Aside from information sent to us via our contact form, our website does not collect or store personal information. We may use various tracking and monitoring software that help us better understand how people are using our website. This tracking and monitoring is done without mapping that information to a particular person. Our website also uses cookies with the intent to provide a better user experience.

That said, we may include embedded content or links to other websites and services. For example, YouTube. Those other sites have their own privacy policies that may be different from ours. We also use several third-party payment processors like Blue Orion, Cosmic.Link, and Coinqvest to provide a convenient way to pay for your Public Node membership directly from our website. Those third-party processors have their own privacy policies that may be different from ours.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact forms

If you send us an email or use our contact form, that information will be sent to our email provider where it will be stored on their servers. We will read that information so that we can better respond or address your comments, feedback, and questions. The information you provided will also be stored on our servers for an indefinite amount of time.

Mailing Addresses

We periodically provide our members, at their choice, a thank you gift for being a member. A small token of our appreciation for supporting us and the open and inclusive Stellar network. If a member chooses to receive a thank you gift, we will need to verify that the member has control of the Stellar wallet, which requires that we map a member to a particular Stellar wallet. In addition, we will need to know who to send the gift and where to send it. We will store this information on our servers to provide better customer service and for our record keeping.

Voting

An important part of Public Node membership is each member’s opportunity to vote on proposed changes to the Stellar protocol. Voting is limited to active members and thus we must map a member to a particular Stellar wallet. We store this relationship on our servers to help us run a efficient and fair voting process.

Cookies

When you visit our website, we use cookies to provide a better user experience, save your browsing preferences, and save your acknowledgement that we use cookies and third party services. A cookie is saved when you click the “OK” button after reading “This website uses cookies and third party services.”

Embedded content from other websites

Articles or pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

Third-party developers, service providers, and system administrators may have access to the information we store simply because they are provided access to our website or email accounts. That said, we do not purposefully share the limited amount of personal data we do store.

How long we retain your data

Aside from information sent to us via our contact form and in order to receive a gift of our appreciation, we do not store personal information. We do store communications you made with us so that we can provide better customer service, ship thank you gifts, and run an efficient and fair voting process.

Where we send your data

Aside from providing your shipping address to third-parties for purposes of postage and shipping, we do not send your data anywhere because we try hard not to collect it in the first place and therefore have nothing to send.

Additional information

How we protect your data

First, we try to limit the amount of information we collect. In other words, we try to make it so there is little information for us to protect. However, we protect all information we store by updating our software regularly, using strong passwords, activating 2FA (if available), and using reputable providers.
